Basic Disclosure · Standard DBS Check · Enhanced DBS Check

Basic Disclosure:
Basic Disclosures are for any purpose, including employment. The certificate will contain details of convictions and conditional cautions that are considered unspent under the terms of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974.

Standard DBS Check:
Standard DBS Checks are for people entering certain occupations and professions, such as members of the legal and accountancy professions. Standard checks contain the following: Convictions, Cautions, Reprimands and Warnings held in England and Wales on the Police National Computer, relevant convictions in Scotland and Northern Ireland may also be included.

Enhanced DBS Check:
Enhanced DBS Checks are for posts involving work in a regulated activity for a regulated activity provider with children or vulnerable adults.  In general, the type of work will involve regularly caring for, supervising, training or being in sole charge of such people. Examples include a Teacher, Care Worker, Scout or Guide leader.

Enhanced checks are also issued for certain statutory purposes such as gaming and lottery licences. Enhanced DBS Checks contain the same information as Standard DBS Checks but with the addition of a check of the DBS Barred Lists (where eligible) and may also contain non-conviction information supplied by relevant police forces, if it is deemed relevant to the role.
